Did you join millions of people this weekend and avoiding visiting your local multiplex in case you accidentally saw Melania The Movie? Me too.
Amazon funded the making of the Melania movie, including a $28m 'fee' to the first Lady - more than twice the budget for the whole movie. (Not to mention covering the marketing for this... phenomenon).
Some commentators are saying that this is Bezos 'falling into line' with the Trump administration, who are critical of the (now faltering) Washington Post, also owned by Bezos. Certainly, it's a clear signal that Amazon is supporting the regime financially and culturally.
This might suggest that this critical piece of digital infrastructure (Amazon web services) is effectively under the control of a foreign power. When the UK government found that Huawei might be similarly compromised, they banned it from providing 5g backbone technology.
Given this, might it be sensible to try to find alternatives to AWS and all the other digital services that Amazon offers?
We think that the UK deserves digital services it can trust. Systems that can't be turned off at a whim by a capricious dictator, or have our data leveraged by a foreign regime against citizens.
The UK needs digital sovereignty, as does every country. Find an alternative to AWS today.
