Sovereign futures

Whatever you might think about the UK government's drive towards an AI powered future, or whether the OSA is likely to cause more harm than it prevents, it's certain that there's some momentum at the moment behind improving increasing UK digital infrastructure.

However, as I've been trying to find services in the UK that support this infrastructure, I'm finding it really hard to do. Every time I find a SSL cert provider, it's either LetsEncrypt or some other US authority under the hood; Cloud services that are AWS or Azure resellers; No IAM, no Git, no Payment Providers.

Perhaps the UK digital service landscape is simply bootstrapping itself with self-hosted solutions. Perhaps I just haven't found the secret cache of UK based services that provide these things from scratch. Perhaps I'm too optimistic that these things might exist here.

Or perhaps it's a desert, with a few bits of local flora and fauna tucked away in corners away from the rapacious grasp of Big Tech.
